My Favourite Place – Jahorina
To me, there aren’t many places in my country that can match Jahorina, a magical mountain that has a special place in my heart.
I grew up in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and traditionally a symbol of love, but also a symbol of a horrible war that took place around 25 years ago. I was a young girl back then and was really scared of everything that was going on during that time. The only thing I wanted to do during that time of war was to enjoy the fresh air in my favourite place ever, Jahorina.

On the way to winter wonderland!
I usually go there with my friends by car. It takes around an hour to get there and I always enjoy the drive because of all the beautiful sights you see while driving – from huge pines covered in snow to traditional wooden houses around the area.
I really adore winters in Jahorina because the whole place transforms into a winter wonderland with the hills covered with the whitest snow I have ever seen. You can also see all sorts of gorgeous animals there and it gives you an impression of untouched and pure nature.
At the same time, many new wooden houses and hotels have recently been built that you can stay in and enjoy nature for a reasonable price! The fact that almost every wooden house has its own fireplace and cosy decor takes me back to happy childhood memories of spending the winter break with my grandparents who read all the great stories to me and my siblings next to the fireplace.
Another thing that Jahorina is famous for is the Winter Olympics back in 1984. That is another reason why I love coming here. The snow is perfect for skiing or snowboarding, my favourite winter sports. It makes me forget everything bad that has happened to me during the last few days, weeks or a year. I just put my skis on and enjoy. Nothing can ruin the day when I visit this place.

Perfect day for skiing, isn’t it?

Just look at this sight. I will never get enough of it!
After our time on the slopes, I usually drink tea with my friends or eat something delicious from one of the best restaurants I have ever been to – Etno Restaurant Koliba. If you ever visit Jahorina, don’t miss this place! Not only because of the food, which is phenomenal but because there are so many people there talking, laughing and having a good time.
I am really happy to see this place grow through the years because it makes me feel more alive and brings faith in better days for my country.
